RESIDENTS CAN NOW DROP OFF MORE
HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTES FOR FREE

New Limits Allow Transporting

Up To 15 Gallons or 125 Pounds In Placer County

PLACER COUNTY, CA - Thanks to a provision in the Health and Safety Code, the Western Placer Waste Management Authority (WPWMA) increased their Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) acceptance limits from 5 gallons or 50 pounds to 15 gallons or 125 pounds per vehicle per visit by expanding their education program on proper transportation of HHW.

When hauling HHW, residents should follow these important tips and transporting techniques:

Proper Container Storage

•  Keep waste in its original container whenever possible.  

•  Label material not in its original container.

•  Place the contents of a leaking container into a tightly sealed , labeled , rigid plastic container.

Proper Transportation

•  Keep container upright when transporting.

•  Do not place waste in plastic bags.

•  Transport materials in the trunk of your car or secured in your truck bed.

The WPWMA's Household Hazardous Waste Facility is open Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and is located at 3195 Athens Avenue, near Fiddyment Road, in Roseville (see map).

The following items are accepted FREE of charge from Placer County residents ONLY .

•  Used motor oil & filters

•  Fluorescent tubes

•  Batteries

•  Thermometers & thermostats

•  Paint & paint products

•  Automotive products & brake fluid

•  Antifreeze

•  Floor & furniture cleaners

•  Acids & pool chemicals

•  Poisons, pesticides & herbicides

•  Solvents/degreasers, varnish & shellac

•  Small aerosol cans

•  Medications

•  Gasoline, kerosene & other flammables

•  Most products labeled DANGER, CAUTION, WARNING, FLAMMABLE, or POISON

•  Compressed gas cylinders LESS than 5 gallons

•  Electronic wastes, such as TVs, computers, radios, etc.

Unacceptable items include medical wastes (except medications and sharps), ammunition/explosives, asbestos, radioactive materials, compressed gas/propane cylinders GREATER than 5 gallons or 20 lbs., and PCBs.
